The Canadian Simpsons Archive

Welcome to the Canadian Simpsons Archive. I am a proud Canadian and an avid Simpsons fan, and I get a strange sense of pleasure whenever the Simpsons mention our fair country, Canada. I know I'm not alone. So here it is, every time the Simpson's have mentioned Canada, along with the episode, a brief episode synopsis, and the context surrounding the mentioning. Enjoy!

Lisa Gets an "A" (Lisa cheats on a test, boosting the school average and making it eligible for extra funds)
[Lisa confesses that she cheated on the test when the comptroller is presenting the cheque.]
Comptroller: (Something to the effect of) Ladies and gentlemen, where I come from, Canada, behaviour like this is rewarded.
[Lisa is given a round of applause and escorted away. Then the comptroller takes off his mask and turns out to be Otto.]

Girlie Edition (Lisa becomes the anchor of a "Kidz Newz" show which airs during Krusty's program.)
[In this episode Principal Skinner offers Lisa the position of anchor on the new "Kidz Newz" show. During this scene I swear the CN Tower is visible outside his office. Anyone got a picture of this or am I just crazy??]
[After Bart becomes co-anchor of Lisa's show, he does a segment called "Bart's People". In his first segment he talks about an 83 year-old man who fed the ducks at the local pond for 16 years until he realized that the ducks were gone.]
Bart: Where did the ducks go? Some people say Canada, others...Toronto. Other people say he just used to feed the ducks in that pond. (points to pond still occupied with ducks)
Das Bus (The students of Springfield Elementary become marooned on an island in the middle nowhere.)
[The students of Springfield Elementary are holding a mock United Nations meeting with Ralph as our Canadian representative, dressed up in full mounty gear, how typical. As a fight starts to break out between the children Ralph starts to sing]
Ralph: Oh, Canada... [Unfortunately he isn't given the chance to finish.]
The Principal And The Pauper (Principal Skinner turns out to be an imposter when the real Skinner shows up in Springfield.)
[The old Skinner is showing the new Skinner some of the possesions he's picked up on his travels]
Old Skinner: And here's 10 Canadian dollars from your trip to Upstate New York.

The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson (Homer goes to New York to pick up the family car which Barney left there.)
[Bart, Lisa, and Marge are looking out the Statue of Liberty when they notice a boat full of immigrants coming]
Bart: Hey immigrants, Beat it! The countries full!
Boat Captain: Okay Immigrants, you hear the lady. Back in the hold. Looks like Canada.
[The immigrants begin to moan] (Hey? What's so bad about Canada?)

The Canine Mutiny (Bart gets an illegal credit card and purchases various products over the mail, including a new dog.)
[Bart is distributing items he purchased with his illegal credit card]
Bart: Here mom, this is for you, 15 pounds of Vancouver smoked salmon.

Burns, Baby Burns (Returning from a visit to the cidermill, the Simpsons pick up a hitchhiker who turns out to be Burns' son.)
Ned: Well, if God didn't make little green apples, it's Homer Simpson! How long have you been here?
Homer: Twenty of the suckiest minutes of my life.
Ned: Ho ho ho, suckin' down the cider, uh? Hey, word to the wise -- [shows Homer a card] season pass! It pays for itself after the sixteenth visit. You know, most people don't know the difference between apple cider and apple juice, but I do. Now here's a little trick to help you remember. If it's clear and yella', you've got juice there, fella! If it's tangy and brown, you're in cider town. Now, there's two exceptions and it gets kinda tricky here...
[Homer's brain gets bored] Brain: [moans] You can stay, but I'm leaving. [brain floats away; Homer is now staring blankly]
Ned: ... can be yellow, if they're using late season apples. And, of course, in Canada, the whole thing's flip-flopped.(This, by the way, is not true)
[Homer collapses]
Ned: Oh, my! I'd better get you some cider.

You Only Move Twice (Homer gets a new job in a new town and the rest of the family has a hard time adjusting.)
(In his new, much slower, class, Bart meets with his new classmates.)
Bart: So, what are you in for?
Gordy: [slowly and strangely] I moved here from Canada, and they think I'm slow, eh?

Bart on the Road (Bart gets a fake driver's license and takes Milhouse, Martin and Nelson on a trip across America.)
Bart: [handing out envelopes] Gentlemen, for our road trip I have taken the liberty of preparing an airtight and utterly plausible alibi for use on our parents.
[Milhouse at home...]
Milhouse: I have been selected to represent the school at the national grammar rodeo at the Sheraton Hotel in Canada.
[Martin at home...]
Martin: I've been selected to represent the school at the national grammar rodeo at the Sheraton Hotel in Canada.
[Nelson at home...]
Nelson: [leaving his house] I'm goin' away for a week. See ya!

Later in the episode, Bart's car rejoins the road after its short tour of America's cornfields.
Martin: [wakes up and looks out the window] Oh! We've arrived in the vast cornfields of Canada. How much further to the grammar rodeo?

[On the road, we meet a man traveling in a station wagon with his family. He has had about all he can take from his rowdy kids.]
Man: If you kids can't keep your hands to yourselves, I'm gonna turn this car around, and there'll be no Cape Canaveral for anybody!
[The kids instantly quiet down, but Bart's car travels by, and Nelson, seeing that the window is open, slaps the man on the head.]
Man: That's it! Back to Winnipeg! [And turns the car around]

The PTA Disbands (Poor labour relations at the school lead to a strike by the teachers.)
Homer: So, how was everybody's day at school?
Bart: Horrifying!
Lisa: Pointless!
Marge: Exhausting. It took the children forty minutes to locate Canada on the map.
Homer: Marge, anyone can miss Canada, all tucked away down there.

Homer vs. Patty and Selma (Homer is forced to borrow money from Patty and Selma to pay for the mortgage.)
[Afterward the dinner with Patty and Selma, Homer smiles falsely as Patty and Selma eye him from the other couch.]
Marge: This has been such a nice peaceful dinner. It calls for a celebration. I'm going to make the most international coffee in the house: Montreal Morn. [leaves]

Brother From The Same Planet (Bart and Homer take advantage of the Bigger Brothers association while Lisa tries to end her obsession with the Corey Hotline.)
[Principal Skinner catches Lisa listening to the 1-900-555-CORY]
Corey: Now for the newspaper, Canada stalls on Free Trade Pact.

Homer's Triple Bypass (Homer's eating habits finally catch up to him and he has to have a heart operation.)
Homer: Don't worry, Marge. America's health care system is second only to Japan, Canada, Sweden, Great Britain, well, all of Europe, but you can thank your lucky stars we don't live in Paraguay!

Marge Gets a Job (Marge gets a job at the Power Plant and Homer feels insecure about the situation.)
After Marge gets a job, Homer disapproves of the situation, but when he talks himself into a corner, he quickly picks up the newspaper and reads, "Canada to hold referendum." Marge explains that they need the money, and besides, she needs to find something to do.

Bart's Friend Falls in Love (Milhouse falls in love with Samantha, a new girl in their class.)
[Bart and Milhouse go to visit Samantha at her new school.]
Samantha: I love Saint Sebastian [School]. It's run by a group of French-Canadian nuns. They're very nice, except they never let me ewt (out).
Nun: Samantha, ne pas de boys.

Dog of Death (Santa's Little Helper has an operation which ruins the Simpson's finanacial situation.)
[Marge and Homer are lying in bed]
Marge: Did you close the gate?
Homer: Yes.
[Sound of gate swinging in the gate]
Homer: Oh, you mean tonight. Bart! Close the gate.
Bart: Lisa, close the gate!
Lisa: Close the gate, Maggie.
[Maggie lies in her crib, wearing a "Crown Royal" Canadian whiskey pouch as her baggie.]

Lisa the Greek (Lisa takes an interest in Homer's love of football.)
[Lisa flips through the card catalog in the Library] "Let's see... Football... Football... 'Homoeroticism in'... 'Oddball Canadian rules'... 'Phyllis George and'..."

When Flanders Failed (Ned Flanders establishes a completely left-handed store which seems doomed to fail.)
Marge says that Homer has important work at the plant that only he can take care of. Homer is actually lying on the family room couch, ostensibly watching "exciting fifteenth round action at the Canadian Football League draft". There is also a reference to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington (Lisa becomes a finalist in an essay writing contest about America.)
USA A-OK (Trong Van Din): When my family arrived in this country four months ago, we spoke no English and had no money in our pockets. Today, we own a nationwide chain of wheel-balancing centers. Where else but in America, or possibly Canada, could our family find such opportunity?...

Well, that's all the ones that I could find. Special thanks to The Simpsons Archive, Sector 7G, and Bodo's Lair for reference material, sounds, and pictures.
